ABOUT THE AUTHOR - Back Cover Text
Marie-Solange Ndeley, Born June 14th 1991 in Cameroon, is a Writer, Poet and Performer. She has been writing since the age of 8, inspired by her Family. JOINT & SEPARATED, based on the theme: ‘Friendship’, is volume one of her Poems. Throughout the Book, she uses her Poems to depict circumstances that teenagers face on a daily basis and it portrays the good and bad side of Friendship. The author addresses the public at large, but targets minors and teenagers in particular. This is due to her genuine concern about the well being and progress of all that they are exposed to: “Gang Land” Culture, Sex, Drugs, and Paedophiles etc. She insists that Friendship should be taken seriously and advices her fellow youths, to be careful when they choose their friends because, this can, ‘MAKE OR KILL THEM’.
INTRODUCTION
Friendship is a term that is often used in every milieu in our society. It is a term that portrays closeness, togetherness, happiness, goodness, sincerity, loyalty and much more…
As our society becomes more emancipated and developed, nowadays, friendship begins to portray greed, deceit, sadness, loneliness, insincerity, disloyalty, division, separation and so on.
For the above reason, the Poems in ‘Joint’ and ‘Separated’ are based on these two schools of friendship. Joint represents the normal meaning of the terminology of Friendship, whilst Separated highlights the sort of friendships that are considered rampant in today’s society. They depict situations that are encountered on a daily basis, especially amongst our youths.
Considering the fact that my Poems are based on themes that touch our day-to-day lives, I expect that the public at large and the youths in particular, will draw immense inspiration from them, and be empowered to cope with similar circumstances in their own lives.
Through reading some of my Poems, parents can develop an insight of the situations encountered by their children and thus be enabled to see things from their children’s perspective. This can equally work visa-versa, where children can have a deeper understanding of their parents’ outlook on certain issues of life.
At this juncture, I would like to point out that some readers might identify themselves with some of my Poems, and might, in some way feel targeted. As the author of this book, I sincerely say that this is not intended.
Although some topics are difficult to deal with due to their delicate manner, I feel they still need to be tackled. This is because I strongly feel that, by exploring them, we can raise awareness whereby the majority of the population can benefit, especially the youths.
With the culture of “Gang Land” developing like wild fire, many young people feel they need to belong to a particular group to be counted in and to be recognised as being important. Their so called friends are sometimes the ones who lead them astray, through peer pressure, introduction to vices, alcohol and sex, just to mention a few.
For instance: if a youth finds him/her self in the midst of others that carry guns, there is a possibility that he/she may also become influenced and motivated towards carrying a gun. If they find themselves amongst those that go to church and pray, they might also develop the church culture.
As a young person myself, through my Poems, I raise my voice with cries, reaching out to my fellow brothers and sisters. Beware of this word “Friendship”. What starts out as genuine friendship can sometimes end very badly. Take care to choose your friends because, they can make or kill you.
Love and Peace, Masol
Excerpt from Joint
United we stand
(Biblically and Historically Based)
Yes,
Unity symbolises togetherness
Even the greatest of Grandmasters said it…
“where two or three are gathered together,
there in their midst I am present”.
Unity is force
Force for Achievement
A force that make goals easy to attain
Fellow youths unite
Make your voice heard, and come across powerful
Powerful to achieve
And make our world
A better place.
United we’ll love
and Stand.
Excerpt from Separated
Divided we fall
It’s no wonder
Cut off a part from a whole
The part falls away from the whole.
A group together equals a whole,
A whole works better than a half,
Believe as one
Speak as one
Act as one
Go places
It derives goals
Distorted Beliefs
Distorted Speech
Distorted Action
Jig-Saw puzzle, with missing bits
Cannot fit
Never makes a whole
Divided we will fall.
